Questions about this pattern
Do I need to know colorwork?
No. Both strands are just knitted together as one. The patchwork effect comes entirely from when you change each strand, and the pattern gives you the schedule.
Can I use my leftover yarn?
That is the whole idea - 8 to 12 assorted worsted-weight leftovers, about 100-150 yards of each. No single colour needs to carry the project and nothing has to match.
What if I don't have enough scraps?
Knit it in one strand of bulky yarn at the same gauge instead. You lose the marl but every number in the pattern still applies exactly.
