Golden Hearth Vest Knitting Pattern (PDF)

A super bulky layering vest in garter stitch from the first row to the last — worked flat in one piece to the underarm so there are no side seams, with a V neck, straight armholes and four wooden toggles on crochet chain loops. If you can knit a garter scarf, you can knit this.

Questions about this pattern

Is this really a beginner pattern?

Yes. It is garter stitch throughout — no purling, no ribbing, no colourwork. The only techniques beyond knit are a few decreases, a three-needle bind-off and a simple crochet chain for the toggle loops, all explained in full.

Do I have to sew anything?

No. The body is one piece so there are no side seams, the shoulders are joined with a three-needle bind-off, and the edges are finished with a slipped selvedge — nothing is picked up and nothing is sewn on.

What if my toggles are a different size?

The pattern gives the rule as well as the number: the loop arithmetic is shown in one line, so you can resize the chain loops for any toggle.
